BUYING AT EDWINS.
Bidding in an EDWIN’S Auction is very simple whether you want to bid in person or look at our catalogue online and bid remotely. The FIRST time you bid with us you will need to complete a registration form. We accept commission bids so you don’t have to bid in person and we will bid on your behalf. We assure you that we will endeavour to win the item for the lowest price, but we cannot guarantee your success.
You can also bid online.
An additional fee from these platforms allows you to bid live from anywhere in the world.
BUYERS PREMIUM.
A buyers premium of 20% inclusive of V.A.T, whether in person or via commission bid will be added to your purchase. If you purchase online there is additional premium to pay, please see the bidding platform for their individual charges.
IN PERSON
All of our sales are open for viewing in our Auction House. Viewing is typically on a Friday 9am – 6pm for a sale the following Monday, but please check our website or give us a call before you travel.
All of EDWINS auctions are on our auction calendar, along with forthcoming sale previews. A fully illustrated catalogue is available online leading up to the sale, and you can receive email alerts when catalogues go live.
CONDITION REPORTS
We are happy to provide Condition Reports to prospective buyers, but would welcome your request as soon as possible. We will endeavour to complete any requests sent at least 48 hours before the day of sale. Any sent after this time will be done at the auctioneer’s discretion on the sale morning. We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report does not guarantee that the lot is in perfect condition. All lots are available on public view ahead of an auction and we encourage prospective buyers to inspect an item in person when possible.
COLLECTION AND STORAGE
Once we have received payment for your purchase we require items collected within 5 working days, or get in touch to organise postage, etc. We are open for collections Monday – Friday between 9.30am and 4:30pm. A storage charge will be made after 5 business days following purchase, this will be £2.50 per lot per day.
ARTISTS RESALE RIGHT
If you buy a work of art by a living artist or an artist who has died in the last 70 years, which costs more than £1,000, you will have to pay a royalty relating to the Artists Resale Right Regulations 2006. The royalties are administered by the Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS), or the Artist’s Collecting Society (ACS), and no handling costs are retained by EDWINS. Items that may qualify for this royalty are marked in the catalogue with a tick next to the lot number. The current royalty charge for qualifying items over £1,000 are: Up to £50,000 – 4% £50,000.01 to £200,000 – 3% £200,000.01 to £350,000 – 1% £350,000.01 to £500,000 – 0.5% Exceeding £500,000 – 0.25%
We will endeavour to post small and relatively unbreakable items. Postage possibility will be assessed on a per lot basis
