A Japanese Maki-e and Raden Lacquer Hibachi (Fire Bowl)
Meiji period (1868–1912), circa 1900–1910
Of rounded form with copper-lined interior, the exterior exquisitely decorated in gold maki-e lacquer with chrysanthemums, grasses, and trailing vine leaves, interspersed with raden (abalone shell) inlay creating iridescent highlights. The lacquer surface displays a fine tactile grain, typical of high-quality Meiji work. Retains a superb deep patina and comes with an original Lotus Arts de Vivre certificate of authenticity, confirming collection by the von Buren family in Japan.
